I want to purchase a gas fireplace, could you explain the
difference between Direct Vent and Up Vent (B-Vent) gas fireplaces?
Direct Vent models have a sealed firebox that draws 100% outside
air needed to fuel the fire. Kozy Heat Direct Vent models
can be vented either vertically or horizontally using either
rigid or flexible pipe. The heated air is forced out through
the upper louvers into your home.
Up
Vent models are atmospherically vented with double-wall metal
B-vent pipe. B-vent is vented vertically to the outside, but
it does not draw outside air for combustion. Kozy Heat no
longer manufactures up vent models.
Can I regulate the heat output from a gas fireplace to
maintain a comfortable room temperature?
Yes. In fact, Kozy Heat offers three different ways to keep
you kozy. All Kozy Heat gas fireplaces are designed
to operate with a thermostat control. Because our gas fireplaces
are tested and comply with wall furnace standards, homeowners
can set the desired room temperature using a thermostat and
the fireplace will automatically turn on or off according
to the desired temperature.
All
Kozy Heat gas fireplaces come standard with a built-in high/low
knob on the gas valve that enables you to vary the fireplaces
heat output by 10,000 BTUs. Because you are varying
the incoming gas, your flame height will naturally increase
on the high setting and decrease on the low setting.
I have heard your fireplace will operate without electricity.
Why will my gas fireplace continue to operate during a power
outage when my furnace will not?
All Kozy Heat gas fireplaces are manufactured with a standing
pilot, millivolt system as a standard feature. Standing pilots
do not require electricity to generate power, whereas your
furnace uses an electronic ignition. Therefore, a Kozy Heat
gas fireplace is an excellent secondary heat source. (The
optional fan requires a 110V current to operate, which is
not necessary for the fireplace to fully function).
I am limited on space in my living room. Do you have any
installation suggestions?
Absolutely. Kozy Heat Direct Vent gas fireplaces can be installed
in virtually any room (bedroom, bathroom and even mobile homes),
or between rooms with ease. In addition, by installing the
fireplace in a corner less space is utilized. Kozy Heat offers
oak cabinets for flat wall, and corner installation applications.
I am currently using liquid propane (LP) for fuel. However,
natural gas will become available for this area in the near
future. Should I wait to purchase the fireplace or can your
fireplace convert between gas fuels?
There is no reason to wait to buy a Kozy Heat gas fireplace
since all our fireplaces can be easily converted between fuels.
Your authorized Kozy Heat dealer
can quickly convert your fireplaces from liquid propane to
natural gas or from natural gas, to liquid propane.
What does the fireplace term zero clearance mean?
Zero clearance simply means "0"
inches are required between the fireplace and combustible
materials. Therefore, framing dimensions are dramatically
minimized - allowing the unit to be placed right up against
interior or exterior walls. Because there are no restrictions
on clearance requirements needed around the unit itself, the
unit can be placed right up to an interior or exterior wall
for a tight fit. However, we do recommend a 1/4" space for
expansion space. (When metal heats, it will expand.)
Can I install my own gas fireplace?
In order to enjoy the benefits of our exceptional warranty,
Kozy Heat recommends using only factory-trained installers
to install Kozy Heat fireplaces.
The place I want to put my fireplace does not allow the
fireplace flue to be vented through the roof. Any suggestions?
Absolutely. All Kozy Heat Direct Vent models are installation
friendly with the option of either vertical or horizontal
venting. Therefore, if you cannot vent up, vent horizontally
through an outside wall.
What is a flue?
A flue is another name for the fireplace chimney or venting
system.
Do
you have a corner fireplace?
All Kozy Heat gas fireplaces can be installed in a corner.
In fact, we have corner cabinets that are perfect for corner
installations.
What is a normal hearth height?
A normal hearth is between 4"- 8" in height. However,
the hearth height is optional depending on individual tastes
and preferences.
What is the difference between steady state
efficiency and AFUE?
Steady State: An efficiency rating is testing only the efficiency
of the fireplace when it is burning.
AFUE:
(Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) Both the on cycle and
off cycle are calculated in this rating. By including the
off cycles (when the fireplace is turned off) a more accurate
yearly operational cost can be estimated.
How much does it cost annually to operate a gas fireplace?
Natural gas fuel costs vary depending on your area. However,
finding your average cost per therm (100,000 BTUs) or cubic
feet (1,000 BTUs) on your gas bill, and deciding on the gas
fireplace (each fireplace has a different BTU/hour input),
you can calculate your monthly average cost.
For
liquid propane users, there are 91,500 BTUs in one gallon
of propane. By dividing 91,500 by the amount the fireplace
BTUs you can figure the hours of burn time and multiply this
by the cost per gallon of liquid propane.
Does the cost of the fireplace include everything I will
need for the installation?
Most components that you need are included with the purchase
of your fireplace with the exception of the grills (some models),
gas line and venting. In addition, there are many custom
options that are available to consider such as fans, brass
accents, remote controls, wall thermostats, mantels, cabinets
and much more.
